Temple lands big man Arashma Parks

The Temple basketball program enters a bounceback season in 2017-2018, and on Thursday, the Owls added to their future with the commitment of Arashma Parks. A hard-playing and engaging big man who does the majority of his work around the basket, the PSA Cardinals product brings a blue-collared mindset to the AAC program.

ALL-JULY TEAMS: First Live Period | Second Live Period | Third Live Period

The younger brother of Villanova forward Omari Spellman, Parks will join his older sibling in Philadelphia next fall. While Parks is not as versatile as Spellman, a former top-25 recruit, Parks, who will transfer into The Phelps School this fall, comes more in as more of a throwback post.

Temple followed the interior producer throughout July in his three stops, including The Combine event that his travel program hosted in mid-July. The intensity with which the Eagles recruited Parks was a deciding factor.

"They were on me the longest and at the majority of my games. Coach (Chris) Clark did an awesome job of recruiting me by texting me and keeping me updated and just asking me how I was doing," he said. "When it came down to the end and on the visit, I just fell in love with the campus.

"Coach (Fran) Dunphy basically just told me that he needs me for defense, he is real big on defense. They want to me to rebound, block shots and run the floor."

The first commitment in the 2018 class for Temple, Parks is a fine addition to Dunphy's program. While he may never be relied upon as a go-to scorer, he should have a very solid and productive career for the Owls, where his toughness and production within the paint should be welcomed from day one.
