Wright headed to the Big East

While in the midst of an outstanding senior season with Michigan's No. 1 ranked Saginaw High School, three-star shooting guard Larry Wright did not need much time to think about it when Coach Norm Roberts of St. John's extended a scholarship offer.
"Larry committed late last night to St. John's," said Saginaw head coach Lou Dawkins. "The entire school is just so excited. Larry is a great kid and good things happen to great people. He just waited it out and looked at all the angles. And when Coach Roberts offered, he said yes in a heartbeat."

Wright, 6-foot-2, 170-pounds, is averaging 23 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for 13-2 Saginaw. According to Coach Dawkins, Wright has improved tremendously since enrolling at Saginaw last year as a junior and still has a very high upside.
"Larry has definitely gotten better," commented Dawkins on the progression of Wright's recruitment. "When he first got here, he was an unknown coming from a small Louisiana town. Then last April, he separated his shoulder and did not get out on the circuit like he needed to. St. John's came in to see him in October and just loved him.
"There is no doubt he can play at that level. In fact, I think in the right situation with the right development he can be a pro. He can flat out score as a scorer and shooter. He is also very athletic.
"When he got here he could barely bench 85-pounds. Now he is up to 185-pounds. In college he will keep getting stronger and continue to improve his ball handling."
George Washington, Illinois, Arkansas and Iowa amongst others were also expressing interest in Wright.
