Walker continues to add offers

For a while, the recruitment of five-star Jonesboro, Ga. shooting guard M.J. Walker stayed under the radar and not many people knew much about where he stood with the process.

Last month, Walker told Rivals.com that Florida State, Maryland and Ohio State were the programs recruiting him hardest. Georgia Tech under new head coach Josh Pastner had just starting recruiting him as well. Since then, he has added offers from California, NC State and USC to his list.

Walker talked about what stands out about the new schools that offered him in the past month.

California: “It’s a great program. I like the flow that they play with. They have the same type of guards that I play like. I like a lot about them.”

Georgia Tech: “The new coach came up to the school and said I should consider them because they are right in my backyard, basically, since they are 25 minutes away. He was saying I could help build up the program again.”

NC State: “I know Dennis Smith is up there now, and having a great point guard like him takes a lot of pressure off the other guards. I think that’s a great program too.”

USC: “They had a great year this year. They have a good program. They have aggressive guards and it seems like the coach lets them play. He gives them a lot of freedom.”

At some point over the summer, Walker said it is possible that he and his father will cut his list down. He doesn’t have any visits set up at the moment. This is one recruitment that could potentially go into the late signing period in 2017.

Maryland still feels like the team to beat for Walker. They have been the most consistent school mentioned in connection with the Georgia native for some time now along with Ohio State. It will be interesting to see how much traction Josh Pastner can get with Walker. California and USC will likely get visits, and will have their chance to make an impression.
