Three visits planned for three-star SF Jordan Phillips

One of the better prospects to not play on the shoe circuit this summer, Jordan Phillips was still afforded the opportunity to prove his worth with a talented Dallas Showtyme unit. Now entering his senior year, Phillips has set three official visit dates.

A 6-foot-7 wing that can play three positions on the floor, Phillips is a talented offensive weapon that can initiate his team’s half-court offense, create for himself and finish at the basket thanks to his athleticism.

A number of schools have remained in contention for Phillips, though three have locked up visit dates.

“I am keeping it pretty open right now. I am supposed to be going down to Fresno State this weekend, then (Sept. 15) I am going to Arkansas and then to Virginia Tech on Sept. 30,” he said. “Other than that, TCU is still in the mix a little bit, Georgetown wants me to come down there and visit, Kansas State, Arizona State and Iowa State, for the most part, is in there, too.”

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Phillips previewed his three visits while assessing a few others in the mix.

Fresno State: “I love Fresno State and this is going to sound funny but my favorite player, Paul George, went there. He thrived at that school. I look forward to seeing if it is the right fit for me. They are just texting me and keeping me up to date on everything and looking forward for me to come down there. I will really entertain going there.”

Arkansas: “I am loving Arkansas. Their coach is on my pretty hard. I love the coaching staff but I don’t know much about the team yet. I am going to look into it more when I get down there but as far as the team, everybody tells me that it is a school that I should look at since they play the way that I do. Coach (Mike) Anderson just tells me how he is going to care for me and treat me like a son, which are good words coming from the head coach. Arkansas is pretty big on my list.”

Virginia Tech: “Coach Roc (Steve Roccaforte) is a great, great coach. He texts me after games in the summer telling me tips and what to do and to go out there and have fun; he just tells me how I have to get down to campus and how I would love it. He tells me how I remind him of the Jae Crowder and Jimmy Butler type of guys and how I could translate that to Virginia Tech’s system.”

Georgetown: “I know a little bit about them. Coach Patrick Ewing came to a couple of my games and my teammate, Grayson Carter, he is really looking at them as a school, so I love the fact about them recruiting me.”

TCU: “They have been on me since January. They are just ready for me to come there. Coach (Corey) Barker stays on me. Coach (Jamie) Dixon is a great coach and I have seen how he has turned the program around. He got RJ Nembhard, which is a real good pick up.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Phillips will visit Fresno State this weekend for his first official visit and trips to Arkansas and Virginia Tech will follow later this month.

While he could commit and sign this fall, nothing is concrete.

“I am not rushing anything but after I take my visits and see what schools will play me a certain way and such, I am going to narrow it down,” he said. “If it is the right school and the right time and I see a good fit, I would go ahead and commit.”

RIVALS' REACTION

Phillips solidified his standing this summer within Rivals.com’s 2018 Rivals150 thanks to his versatility, ball skills and size for his position.

No single school stands out from the rest, though things do look good for Fresno State, Arkansas and Virginia Tech as they remain the only programs to have scheduled an official visit with the Texas native.
