Thomas still Big East bound

It's not South Florida, but South Kent's Rob Thomas is headed to the Big East, and this time the 6-foot-6, 220-pound small forward and native New Yorker is staying closer to home.
"Last night Rob made it official for St. John's," said South Kent head coach Raphael Chillious. "Every staff that has been at St. John's has been recruiting Rob since he was in the eighth grade. So he knows everything he needs to know about St. John's.

"Coach Roberts has come in and done a great job. Rob really got a sense that they are going to take care of him."
As for his former commitment to South Florida, Thomas did not know everything he needed to know.
"The issue with South Florida was that Rob never saw it with his own eyes," said Chillious. "His guardians went down there and decided it was where he should be."
After gaining excess weight and struggling last season, Thomas has played well this season before being sidelined the past month with a high ankle sprang.
"Rob got his weight down and got his athleticism back," said Chillious. "He lost around 30 to 35-pounds. We are hoping to get him back before the end of the season."
Thomas, who was averaging around 21 points per game before his injury, was considering Arizona, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, South Florida and DePaul before his commitment to St. John's.
