Texas G Kennedy talks Florida, VCU, Virginia Tech

INDIANAPOLIS – Keonte Kennedy was a relative unknown this time last year while he was finishing up his sophomore campaign in Colorado. A talented 6-foot-4 shooting guard who played his junior season in Texas, Kennedy has continued to improve and has become valued by some of the better programs throughout the South and East Coast.

Running with the RM5 Elite 17-under team this spring and summer on the Nike EYBL circuit, Kennedy has become known for his shooting ability. He's averaging over 10 points while making close to half of his three-point attempts.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Kennedy is a good looking two-guard prospect who has seen his recruitment take off in recent months.

“Virginia Tech is on me pretty hard, VCU and Florida; they have been talking to me heavily,” he said.

Others that have offered include Texas Tech, Rice, Tulsa and Louisiana Tech.

Kennedy gave further insight on the three coming the hardest.

Virginia Tech: “It is the ACC. Coach Buzz Williams, he is great.”

VCU: “Love the coaching staff. VCU is like the big time to me. I love their style of play I feel like I could come in and fit in right away.”

Florida: “I love their style of play. They get up and down but they can slow it down, too. It is the SEC where you’re playing Kentucky and Texas A&M.”

WHAT'S NEXT

Kennedy is still just getting his name out there as he will continue to enjoy the recruitment process while he finishes out his final year on the travel circuit with the RM5 Elite program.

He does have a timetable in mind for his college decision.

“I will probably set my visits up in the fall and then make my decision after that,” Kennedy said.

RIVALS' REACTION

Players that bring good size onto the perimeter and can shoot it at a consistent rate have become increasingly valued. Kennedy fits the mold, so expect some of the top programs throughout the South to prioritize the 6-foot-4 junior in the coming months, though it does look as if Virginia Tech, VCU and Florida sit in a prime spot for the time being.
