Point guard JaJuan Spillman out of Pleasure Ridge Park High School in Louisville, Kentucky is emerging as one of the top 2005 prospects in Kentucky. Right now he is listing two big time programs, and one is very close to home.

“I like Louisville and Kansas,” said the 5-foot-11, 160-pound Spillman. “They have not offered me a scholarship yet, but they both want me to take official visits.”
Spillman displayed a full range of skills in Pleasure Ridge Park’s win over Centralia (Ill.) High School. He dished out five assists, displayed tremendous court presence, played smothering defense, and made an array of shots, going 4 of 7 from inside the arc, 4 of 6 from outside the arc, and 3 of 3 from the free throw line for 23 points.
Pleasure Ridge Park coach Dale Mabrey is one of Spillman’s biggest fans.
“He is just a God given talent,” said Coach Mabrey. “He is as good on the football field as on the basketball court. He is a strong vocal leader. We even have to tell him to take it easy because sometimes he can be too hard on his teammates. It is hard for him to understand why they are not playing as hard as he is. I really feel like he will pick his school. He was the first freshman to start for Pleasure Ridge in 45 years. He could out quick anyone, but we told him he had to improve his shot. You can tell by what he did tonight that he has done that.”
Since the beginning of his sophomore year, Spillman has spent extra time after every practice working on his jumper.
“After practice I stay 30 minutes to work on it,” he said. “I still do it to keep getting it better.”
Spillman said that basketball is definitely his sport for college but that he might try playing both if the situation presents itself. In fact, he is being recruited harder as a football player than a basketball player right now.
When asked if he had a dream school he wanted to attend, Spillman had a quick answer.
“Louisville- I want to sty home, so my mom can watch me play.”
He even went on to say that if Louisville offered him, he would commit on the spot.
