North Carolina added another tremendous scoring weapon to its nationally-recognized class. Top-50 wing Puff Johnson, the younger brother of former UNC standout Cameron Johnson, gave his verbal commitment to the Tar Heels on Wednesday.

“I picked UNC for many reasons. One of them is I have had a relationship with Roy Williams since Cam (Johnson) played there. I think it was the best fit,” Johnson told Rivals.com. “Whenever Roy Williams and I sat down, we watched film and I saw myself fit into that type of offense they play.”

Johnson chose North Carolina over Arizona and Pitt. He is a 6-foot-7 senior that is slotted as the 12th best small forward nationally. The 43rd best recruit in the 2020 class, the Tar Heels now sit with five top-65 commitments this fall.

“Seeing Cam play and how he was used, I saw that I could play and be used just like him,” the younger Johnson said. “I already had a bond with the players and I see my fitting in well down there.”

A smooth, lefty wing that is valued greatest for his shot making, Cameron Johnson played an important part in the recruiting process for the four-star. “Cam was very vital throughout the process for me. He has been through the college experience and he knows what to look for in a coach and to look for in recruiting,” Johnson stated. “Another reason is that he knows my skill and abilities and what place I would fit the best at.”

Johnson gives Roy Williams his best class in over ten years and is one that rivals UNC’s 2009 class that featured the Wear brothers and John Henson. North Carolina is now full on scholarships this fall and will sign Johnson, Caleb Love, RJ Davis, Day’Ron Sharpe and Walker Kessler next week.
