CENTEREACH, NEW YORK -- In a rare afternoon game played on a Friday, Our Savior New American wrapped up its home schedule with a relatively easy win over Redemption Christian Academy, 63-48.
Our Savior spurted out to a 31-16 lead after the first two quarters of play. Our Savior was never challenged in the third or fourth quarters by a flat Redemption team.
Juan Palacios hit a top of the key three-pointer and Derek Brown hit a driving layup on consecutive possessions in the third quarter. This gave Our Savior New American a 40-20 lead with 2:30 remaining in the third quarter.
Redemption could not muster up any offensive threats. Guard Chris Laboard was held to zero points in the first half. He later came alive in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 points. Antoine Gilkes was the only consistent scorer for Redemption. He led all scorers with 18 points and was a good presense inside for Redemption.
Oumar Sylla, Derek Brown and Palacios each scored 13 points for Our Savior New American. Jamar Wilson added 11 points from the point guard position for the winners. Shooting guard Walter Murray did not play much in the second half. He scored just two points while Konimba Diarra had six points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks.
