Two of the top prospects in the nation, Mike Williams and Glen Miles, are set to end the suspense and announce their future college destination this Saturday at the Tournament of Champions AAU tournament in North Carolina.

The competition for Williams, 6-foot-7, 225-pounds, has been fierce with schools across the country showing heavy interest. When the dust had cleared Williams had narrowed his list down Alabama, Duke, Florida, Tennessee and Texas earlier this month.
Recently, it became obvious that three schools had become the top choices for Williams, who is rated as the nation’s 16th best player by RivalsHoops.com, with Alabama, Florida and Texas all set to battle for his services.
During the first weekend of May, Williams took his first, and apparently only official visit when he made the trek to Austin to visit Rick Barnes and the Texas Longhorns. The Central Wilcox High School star came back with glowing reviews.
“The campus is set up real nice and everything looked good. I enjoyed walking around there and seeing where the students go to class,” Williams said. “Texas has the best facilities that I have seen on a college campus. Their weight room is nice and I also liked the basketball gym.”
After the visit, the athletic power forward claimed no favorites but with his recent decision to make a quicker than expected announcement it seems that the Longhorns staff made a strong enough impression that Texas is now the odds on favorite to receive his pledge this weekend.
If, as expected, Texas lands Williams it will give the Longhorns their fifth verbal commitment and a class that could be tough to beat next year for the nation’s best.
Texas received early commitments from 6-foot-10 center LaMarcus Aldridge, (who is rated the nation’s 5th best prospect by RivalsHoops.com), 6-foot-10 power forward Connor Atchley, 6-foot-7 small forward Dion Dowdell, (9th best small forward and 51st top prospect), and 6-foot-3 shooting guard Daniel Gibson (2nd best point guard and 14th overall prospect).
Last season, Williams led Wilcox to the 5A state championship while averaging 26 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocks.
The last four years combo guard Glen Miles, 6-foot-4, 190-pounds, has teamed with Williams to form one of the nation’s top inside-outside duos on the AAU circuit, playing with the Alabama Laser, Southeast Raptors or the Southeast Pump-N-Run.
So it seems somewhat poetic that the two teammates will make their announcements this weekend in a joint effort. However, the longtime partnership appears to be headed in separate directions on the collegiate level as Alabama has emerged as the leader for Miles with Kentucky, Oklahoma and UAB also receiving consideration.
“Alabama is my overall favorite and have been for a while. I fit well in their system and I like what they’ve been doing. Also, it’s close to home and I know a lot of the players,” Miles told RivalHoops.com in an April interview. “I wouldn’t say I’ve made up my mind but I have a pretty good idea of where I want to go.”
Miles had indicated to RivalsHoops.com in previous interviews that he was interested in staying close to home and The University of Alabama is 45 minutes from his home making the Tuscaloosa campus his likely destination.
When Miles gives his pledge to Alabama it will give the Tide their 3rd commitment for the 2004 class. Also committing to play at the Capstone are highly recruited prospects Ron Steele, who is ranked as the nation’s 4th best at his position and 15th prospect overall, and 6-foot-6 small forward Jean Felix (4-stars) from Bevill State Community College in Sumiton, Alabama.
