Miami heavily in mix for three-star Harris after big spring

HAMPTON, Va. – Three-star power forward Jermaine Harris has enjoyed a breakthrough spring on the Under Armor circuit, and as a result he has seen serious interest from Miami, Pitt, Georgia, Georgetown, Tennessee, Seton Hall and Rhode Island.

Harris can stretch the floor with a perimeter jumper and has the length to protect the basket. Ranked within the top-150 of the 2018 class rankings, Harris’ upside is better compared to most. While he had lacked consistent production in the past, the talented forward has shown the ability to put up numbers each time out this spring,

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Harris discussed a few of the schools that have begun to ramp their attention up for the top-150 recruit.

Miami: “They fight. If they are down by 20, they keep fighting. They are a hard working program that competes against any type of competition; it would be a good fit for me.”

Georgetown: “It is a big man’s school. Pat Ewing went there. I talked to him earlier this month when he gave me an offer. They really want me.”

Georgia: “It is the SEC; it’s a big conference with high level competition every night. I talk to the coach a lot and we have great communication. It is where I am from, too.”

WHAT'S NEXT

Harris will finish out his final summer on the travel circuit with the DC Premier 17-under unit. When it comes to choosing a school, Harris has an idea of how he wants things to play out.

“I will be making more of a cut list once I get back from Los Angeles next week,” he said. “I want to cut it to seven. I am definitely visiting Miami, Georgia, Tennessee, Pitt, WVU and Virginia Tech in June hopefully, when I am free. I will be committing in November.”

RIVALS REACTION

Harris is the type of forward that can play in a variety of lineups thanks to his skillset and shot-making abilities. His recruitment has remained on the uptick in recent months, primarily because of his increased production on the hardwood. It would be anyone’s guess as to where he might land, though Miami is a school to watch. The Canes have done a great job of landing talent out of the DMV in recent years, the latest being 2017 signee Chris Lykes.
