Late help for the Pack

THE RIVALS150: 2015 | 2016

Over the weekend, Shaun Kirk told Rivals.com that he had achieved a qualifying test score and would stay in the class of 2015 rather than attend a year of prep school. Monday night, he came off the board to N.C. State.
A 6-foot-6 small forward from Whiteville (N.C.) High, Kirk spent the entire weekend playing in front of N.C. State coaches as a teammate of 2016 targets Dennis Smith and Edrice Adebayo. Between the reported improvement in his grades and his play over the weekend, the Wolfpack saw enough to go ahead and offer him a scholarship.
Kirk is a high-flying athlete who is at his best in transition, where he likes to finish above the rim in crowd-pleasing style. He's got good length and quickness that he uses on the defensive end of the floor and a body that will easily carry more weight in a college weight room.
"I'm a good open court player and I play hard," Kirk told Rivals.com over the weekend. "I feel like I can help somebody out."
The next step for Kirk is going to be working on his ball handling. He is a good enough shooter to keep defenders honest when he catches the ball off of passes but needs refinement when it comes to shooting off of the dribble.
A three-star prospect, Kirk would have been included in the next edition of the Rivals150 had he stayed in the class of 2016. As it is, he is the first member of N.C. State's 2015 recruiting class and a nice pickup this late in the recruiting cycle.
