Georgia legacy Kessler has growing SEC interest

Walker Kessler
Walker Kessler (Dan McDonald)

Walker Kessler was one of our top performers Thursday at the Super Showcase in Orlando, and he’s going to be a very highly recruited prospect in the 2020 class out Georgia. Already at 6-foot-10, he’s a lights out shooter from three-point range and he’s a very good scorer on the block despite being very thin.

No schools have offered Kessler yet, but they are already starting to show heavy interest. Georgia, where his father Chad, uncle Alec, and brother Houston all played, was in attendance to watch him. Auburn, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Xavier are among the other schools involved with Kessler, and Kentucky hosted him on a visit on Tuesday.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Kessler talked about his interest in the schools recruiting him.

Georgia: “I grew up watching them. My dad went there. I’ve loved them forever. I know pretty much everything I need to know about them.”

Auburn: “Bruce Pearl is a great coach obviously. Auburn’s facilities are awesome.”

Vanderbilt: “I visited there too. That was a really pretty campus and Nashville is a great city.”

Kentucky: “They asked me to come up for a visit. I mean it is Kentucky, one of the biggest basketball schools there is.”

On schools he’d like to hear from: “I’m open to anybody, but I guess Duke and North Carolina are every kid’s dream.”

RIVALS REACTION

Early on, Kessler looks like he’ll be one of the best prospects in Georgia’s 2020 class and one of the more highly recruited post players in the country. With the emphasis on shooting in today’s game, Kessler’s ability to shoot at his height will make him a hot commodity. Georgia will be a major player here with his family’s ties to the school. If he continues to develop as a player, expect the most high-profile schools to get involved.
