Four-star guard Prentiss Hubb talks Maryland, UVA, Villanova

One of the top guards in the 2018 class, Prentiss Hubb can play either guard spot and has a half-dozen finalists that include Kansas, Villanova, Syracuse, Maryland, Virginia and Notre Dame.

Hubb can be leaned upon for his versatile scoring abilities, steady facilitating skills and consistent demeanor in the backcourt. It is because of his well-rounded skillset that the major programs have remained in pursuit.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

After slimming down his list to six, Hubb was able to touch on a few that made the cut.

Maryland: “It is a really good school. We have a great relationship and we stay in touch a lot.”

Villanova: “They are a really good group. Great coaching staff that pushes them and great players. I was able to go and watch a few of their games and I really like the way they play.”

Virginia: “How hard they play on defense really stands out. They try and run their team based on their defense. Their defense is their offense. It is pretty much about playing hard. They just want me to come in with that same energy and intensity.”

WHAT’S NEXT?

Hubb will finish his travel career with the DC Premier program on the Under Armour circuit this summer. A commitment is likely to take place in the fall following a few official visits. When it does come time to decide on a school, Hubb has a few things that he wants.

“Just a good structure with academics and basketball, having a good relationship with the coaches and a playing style that fits me with a lot of ball screens,” he said. “I am also looking at previous point guards and guards that went to that school.”

RIVALS’ REACTION

He has competed on the biggest of stages for three years and is primed to jump right in and help a college program as a freshman. When it does come time to decide, we have to hedge our bets on Maryland as Mark Turgeon and his staff have done excellent work so far in building the proper relationship with the top-50 junior.
