Florida wraps up Rivals150 wing Keyontae Johnson

Florida continues to leave its mark in the 2018 class landed the pledge of Rivals150 wing Keyontae Johnson. A take-no-prisoners type of ballplayer that buys into defending the opposing team’s best offensive weapon, yet is more than capable of scoring when asked upon, Johnson caps Florida's class during the early signing period this week.

Down to a final four of UF, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Texas Tech, Johnson, who took an official visit to Florida last month, decided that Gainesville was the place to be. Johnson's commitment is a big one for the Gators where he brings a high motor, competitive mentality and plenty of intangibles to Gainesville.

A 6-foot-5 wing that can defend all three perimeter positions, Johnson is the type of prospect that doesn’t need the ball to contribute. Playing alongside now Duke freshman and five-star guard Trevon Duval last high school season and next to five-star 2018 wing Keldon Johnson on the travel circuit this summer, the Rivals150 product has shown that he is versatile enough to help his team succeed despite his lack of shots.

A native of the Hampton Roads region, Johnson, who suited up for the famed Boo Williams Summer League unit this summer, was a model of efficiency in capping off his travel basketball career. Averaging 9.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists, all while making over 57 percent of his field goal tries, the four-star wing should have the chance to earn minutes early on as a freshman next winter.

The third commitment in the 2018 class for Florida, Johnson will join two other recent UF pledges next year in Gainesville. Florida celebrated a string of successful days in October with the commitments of five-star playmaking guard Andrew Nembhard and four-star scoring guard Noah Locke. With Johnson's commitment, the Gators class rises to No. 16 nationally.
