It took a little time for him to arrive at his decision, but five-star senior shooting guard M.J. Walker is finally off the board.

During a Wednesday announcement at Jonesboro (Ga.) High, the 6-foot-4 scorer announced that he has committed to play his college basketball for Leonard Hamilton at Florida State.

The Georgia native cited his relationship with Hamilton and assistant coach Charlton Young as playing a big role in his decision.

“I think it came down to relationships,” Walker said. “Me and the coaches, Coach ‘CY’ and Coach Hamilton, have a great relationship from throughout the years and they just recruited me hard. I had good relationships with other coaches too, but I feel like in my heart, Florida State was the best fit and the best situation for me.”

Strong, with feel for the game and good athleticism, Walker is a pure scorer.

He can get hot from deep, he is built to take and finish through contact and he's not deterred by stretches where his shot doesn't fall. Perhaps his biggest asset is that he will be physically ready for the jump to college.

Walker visited Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and UCLA during the process in addition to Florida State.

“When I went to Florida State, the visit went great,” Walker said. “The relationship with them is great. I still wanted to get out and tour some other schools and see if there was something at other schools that I need to see. I didn’t want to go to just one school and be locked in. I wanted to explore my options and make sure it’s the school I want to go to.”

Walker is the sixth member of the Seminoles 2017 recruiting class. He joins four-star center Ikey Obiagu, four-star forward Raiquan Gray and three-star wings Wyatt Wilkes, Bryan Trimble and Anthony Polite.
