Chandler plans to schedule officials after in-person visits

Jay Jay Chandler

Jay Jay Chandler recently trimmed his list down to five schools after getting recruited by programs all over the country. Georgia, Georgia Tech, USC, Virginia Tech and Western Kentucky remain on the list for the four-star guard from Texas.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Chandler talked about what stands out most with each school still involved with him.

Georgia: “I’ve been talking to them for a while now. They have been keeping everything straight up since I started talking to them. They said they need me at the guard spot to replace the guard they are losing after this year. They think I’ll fit in perfectly in their program.”

Georgia Tech: “I’ve had a relationship with coach (Josh) Pastner since I started playing with Houston Hoops. I’ve been talking to him probably the most of any of the head coaches recruiting me. We have a really good relationship from when he was at Memphis. His coaching style fits me.”

USC: “When I went to California for the Pangos camp, I went there. They’ve been talking to me for a while now. I had a good visit there and built a close relationship with them. I like them a lot because they play more than one guard.”

Virginia Tech: “They have been on me since like my freshman year. They have been on me the longest of any of the schools on my list. Me and coach Buzz (Williams) have a great relationship. I’ve talked to them a lot. Playing in the ACC would be really good too because that’s one of the best conferences.”

Western Kentucky: “Coach (Rick) Stansbury was at Texas A&M and I built a good relationship with him when he was recruiting me there. When he got that job, we just continued to build a good relationship and they have been on me hard there.”

WHAT'S NEXT

Chandler has coaches from all the schools recruiting coming in for home and school visits. After he’s done with that, he’ll start plotting out his official visit schedule. He has yet to set up any official visits. He won’t be committing any time too soon, but said once the calendar turns to October it could happen any time.

RIVALS' REACTION

The official visit portion of his recruitment will play a big part in this one. A lot of recent speculation has been that his relationship with Rick Stansbury could help Western Kentucky earn his signature in November. Josh Pastner at Georgia Tech also has a strong relationship with Chandler, so the Yellow Jackets could be a factor as well.
