Each time Daniel Gafford made his way to campus at Arkansas, he enjoyed himself. Saturday evening, the rising junior big man decided to end his recruitment.
Gary Simmons the high school coach at El Dorado (Ark.) High confirmed to Rivals.com that the 6-foot-10 center committed to Mike Anderson and Arkansas on Saturday.
"Yes he committed, Simmons told Rivals.com. "He's real excited about it and w'ere really happy for him."
According to coach Simmons, Gafford felt both a personality and a system fit at Arkansas.
"He went up and had a great day at camp," said Simmons. "Every time he comes up for camp he has a great time. He got a tour of the facilities and he really likes the coaching staff and feels that they have a plan for him.
"He really thinks he fits the system and he's really excited to finish up his carrer at El Dorado and be a Razorback."
Currently an unranked three-star prospect, Gafford will enter the 2017 rankings as a four-star prospect when they are next updated. He runs well, has good skill, catches almost everything and has considerable upside given that he's only been playing basketball for a few years.
"He's come a long way," said Simmons. "We got him out of the band as an eighth grader. He hadn't been on a rec league, an AAU team or anything.
"This has really been the first full year that he's had to dedicate himself to basketball. Anything you teach him he soaks it up like a sponge. He doesn't think he knows it all. Whether it is with us or with the wings you can see that he's really paying attention and that he wants to learn as much as he can."
