C.J. Roberts (North Richland Hills, Tx./Richland) has been on the radar of college coaches for a while now as one of the better guards in the country. The four-star point guard can run an offense as the primary ball handler, but can also flip the switch and become a lights-out scorer.
Throughout the recruiting process, the Texas native has collected offers from programs all over the country. As he starts his senior of high school, the schools he’s most focused on right now are Missouri, Georgia, LSU and Louisiana Tech.
IN HIS OWN WORDS: Roberts broke down what stands out most about each school.
Missouri: “They are in the SEC and they have a new coaching staff that is trying to start fresh. They are recruiting me pretty hard.”
Georgia: “They are also in the SEC and they have been a contender for one of the best teams in the SEC, so they are good.”
LSU: “They are obviously in the SEC too and they just had Ben Simmons go No. 1 in the draft. Antonio Blakeney will probably make it to the league too, so that’s a good thing about LSU.”
Louisiana Tech: “It’s just a good school. They have a great coaching staff. One of the coaches there coached Elfrid Payton, so that’s a good thing.”
WHAT’S NEXT?: Taking official visits is the next step in the process for Roberts. A visit is already scheduled with Missouri for Sept. 16 and he says he’ll likely take one to Georgia at some point next month. Other visits could take place as well. He says a decision will come whenever he finds a school that fits him best and where he feels comfortable.
RIVALS’ REACTION: It’s pretty clear that Missouri has made Roberts a priority at the point guard position and they have secured the first official visit. Georgia appears to be making a push and certainly has his attention. LSU’s recent success of recruiting and developing high-level players also intrigues him. It’s a safe bet that one of the SEC schools on his list will end up with him in their 2017 class come November.
