Elite preview- Dwon Odom has big time potential

The Hoopseen Elite Preview offered a chance to see many of Georgia's top prospects. Freshman guard Dwon Odom stood out among a talented group of prospects from the class of 2020.

Arguably the top player in attendance at the Elite Preview regardless of class was Dwon Odom. From nearly start to finish of camp, Odom showed exactly he’s already started to collect scholarship offers despite just finishing his freshman season at St. Francis.

At 6-foot-3, Odom will likely be recruited as a point guard but he truly is the definition of a combo guard because he plays both guard spots equally well. He’s a very capable floor general and distributor, but when he wants to get a bucket, he’s hard to stop from doing so. Odom threw down some of the more impressive dunks at the camp and everything he does on the court appears very effortless.

Offers have already come in from Georgia Tech, Rutgers, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Duke and North Carolina have also shown early interest. The Blue Devils sit in a pretty good spot if they eventually make a push for the Georgia native.

“Duke, that’s really where I want to go,” Odom said. “They have been a really good program for a really long time.”

Georgia Tech is going to be a factor for local prospects like Odom with Josh Pastner at the helm.

“I like their program. They’ve done really well. Coach Pastner is a really good coach.”

Virginia’s style of play and recent history of success appeal to Odom as well.

“I really like Virginia. They are just a really good team and they have a really nice arena. I love the way they move the ball as a team.”

If Saturday was any indication, Ebenezer Dowuona of the Heritage School is going to be a fun prospect to track the next few years. Already at 6-foot-10, Dowuona is an impressive athlete that plays with a ton of energy. His length allows to be a major factor defensively altering or blocking shots as well as deflecting passes leading to turnovers. Offensively, he’s no slouch either. He can hit mid-range jumpers and can score off some basic post moves. He’ll be on high-major radars very soon.

Norcross (Ga.) High always pumps out players and Brandon Boston will be next in a long line of high-major prospects to come out of their program. The 6-foot-6 wing can score with ease from all three levels and has the type of athleticism that will intrigue high-majors.

Kevon Eskridge and Josh Taylor are the future at Decatur (Ga.) Columbia High School, another program with a history of pumping out players. Eskridge was the most consistent three-point shooter in camp. Taylor used his big body and a variety of post moves to do his damage in the paint.

Jordan Meka is a bouncy 6-foot-7 forward from Mt. Bethel Christian with potential through the roof. He had a few impressive dunks throughout the day. Chase Ellis, a 6-foot-3 wing, will team up with Odom at St. Francis the next few years and should form one of the better backcourts in the state. He’s a high level shot maker and he’s more than capable of making plays going to the rim.
