SCOTTSDALE, Ariz – Danny Carbuccia knocked down one of the most important shots of this year's Hoophall West Invitational, as his buzzer-beater lifted White Plains (NY) Archbishop Stepinac to a narrow win over Arizona’s Perry High. but the four-star guard has been on the radars of college coaches long before his big moment in the desert.
Rivals caught up with Carbuccia moments after his game-winner to discuss where things stand as they relate to his recruitment as well as what could be next for his process.

ON SCHOOLS IN THE MIX:
“I’ve been talking to Auburn. Xavier, Virginia and Virginia Tech the most probably. I’d say Xavier the most. I want to visit there.”
ON WHAT HE WANTS TO SEE AT XAVIER:
“It would be my first visit so I really wouldn’t know what to expect. I know I want to see it, though. I also want to probably go to Providence. Also, St. John’s because it’s my hometown. Seton Hall, too. I talked with the head coach [Shaheen Holloway] there.”
ON PAST VISITS:
“I haven’t had the chance to visit anywhere yet. I wanted to go to Xavier and other places. but I was busy all offseason pretty much playing FIBA [with the Dominican National Team]. I was down in the Dominican a lot, so I couldn't really do anything for college recruitment.”
ON HIS INTERNATIONAL BASKETBALL EXPERIENCE:
“It definitely helped me. It helped see some different basketball styles because a lot of guys out there play different because they are all playing in different countries and all that.”
ON A TIMETABLE FOR A COMMITMENT:
“I’m definitely going to wait through this high school season. Then, I’ll play EYBL and then probably make a commitment after that, so I’m not really in a hurry or anything.”
RIVALS' REACTION
It’s unwise to read too much into Carbuccia’s recruitment until he starts taking visits, though Seton Hall and Xavier seem to be pretty consistent in their pursuits of the talented point guard. The picture of his recruitment should clear by the time we hit spring, as the real contenders will separate themselves as he plans official visits.
