Schools push for versatile guard Dosunmu

HAMPTON, Va. – One of the top point guards and competitors in the 2018 class, Ayo Dosunmu showed off his entire arsenal this past weekend. The Mac Irvin Fire guard averaged 25 points per game and got to the foul line over 40 times during his four-day weekend, displaying takeover abilities throughout.

Sitting within the top-30 of the 2018 class rankings, Dosunmu is never one to shy away from the spotlight. He has continually ascended up the ladder and become one of the names to know this spring.

Northwestern, Butler, Xavier, Illinois and a slew of others have made their push to recruit Dosunmu.

Nearly impossible to keep away from the basket, Dosunmu has a James Harden-like ability to get to the rim and draw the foul. Toss in his defensive acumen and it is easy to see why a handful of schools have made the Windy City native a priority.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

The high-end four-star prospect spoke further on some of his top schools.

Illinois: “It is my in-state school, so it is always good to have a good relationship with the school that you’re actually from. I want to be able to develop a great relationship with them.”

Northwestern: “This year was their first NCAA Tournament appearance. Coach (Chris) Collins and Coach (Armon) Gates, they have a tremendous coaching staff, he coached pros, he coached the USA Team, he knows the game. He knows what every point guard needs.”

Xavier: “Coach (Chris) Mack and Coach Luke Murray, they’re tremendous. They have been recruiting me the hardest, I would say. They came up to my school about three weeks before the EYBL started. They call, they come to all my games, they visit, they make the NCAA Tournament every year, and they make the Sweet 16; they are an elite program.”

WHAT'S NEXT

N.C. State came in with an offer on Sunday evening, and many more schools can be expected to enter the picture as the recruiting process still has some time to play out.

“I don’t know when I want to take my next visit, but I am probably going to cut my list down after Peach Jam in July,” Dosunmu said. “I probably want to sign in the early signing period.”

RIVALS' REACTION

There are not many more well-rounded players in the 2018 class than Dosunmu. A priority for some of the top local schools, expect for Xavier and Illinois to be the last two standing in the fight for the talented top-30 guard.
