Broadnax on transfer, top schools
Point guard Trae Broadnax had a productive start to the 2017 travel season playing in the Nike EYBL with the Southern Stampede. The three-star recruit went from being an under-the-radar prospect buried down in South Georgia to now emerging as a high-major prospect in the 2019 class.
He now holds offers from UAB and Columbia and has had interest from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Wake Forest and Xavier. South Carolina had Broadnax on campus earlier this year for an unofficial visit. His father, Horace Broadnax, is currently the head coach at Savannah State and is a former teammate of Patrick Ewing’s at Georgetown.
For his final two years of high school, Broadnax decided to transfer to Montverde Academy in Florida.

Broadnax discussed his decision to transfer along with his interest in the schools recruiting him.
On transferring to Montverde: “We had been talking about it for a while and then they came to watch me play in Indianapolis and were impressed. I drove down from Savannah and visited a couple days later and they offered me a spot on the team. The level of competition is definitely going to be a difference from where I played and even practice is a good opportunity for me.”
Georgia: “I talked to Coach Jonas [Hayes]. He just introduced himself to me and he wants to keep in contact and establish a relationship early.”
Xavier: “My coach from the South Stampede said they called about me. I like what they do. They don’t always recruit the high-level guys, but they always win in the tough Big East.”
South Carolina: “Their campus was really beautiful. I liked how it was all really close together everything is there.”
Georgetown: “My dad played with Patrick Ewing. He came and watched me during the first EYBL session and they were sitting together talking. They are pretty close. I don’t really feel any pressure to go there, but I would love the opportunity to play where my dad played. That’d be great.
WHAT'S NEXT
As we mentioned above, Broadnax is going to be making the move down to play against better competition at Montverde for his final two high school seasons. He’ll also be finishing up the summer with the Southern Stampede, but mentioned the possibility of taking visits throughout June to some of the schools recruiting him.
RIVALS REACTION
Georgetown will clearly be a factor in this one if Ewing decides to start recruiting Broadnax. Moving to Montverde should also give him a bigger stage to show his ability, which will only lead to more schools getting involved with him. Right now, Broadnax is staying open to all the schools recruiting him.
