Zimmerman heading west

Santa Clara is a long way from Oostburg (Wisc.) High School, but 6-foot-9, 210-pound center Andrew Zimmerman will play his college basketball on the west coast.
With a final five of Santa Clara, Indiana State, Northwestern, Rice and Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Zimmerman was impressed with Northwestern's campus and the medical facility at Rice, but neither compared to the whole package that Santa Clara presented.

"He went out there for his visit during Steve Nash weekend and was blown away," said Zimmerman's travel team coach Ritchie Davis of the Fox Valley Skills. "But more than that, it was just a really good fit with the coaches and the players.
"What really impressed Andrew is how the players not only all played together one morning while he was there, but they all also hung out together. It really was a family environment. Also, there is a lot of playing time available and a chance to compete for the top of their conference."
Zimmerman, who is a skilled interior player in need of added strength, averaged 16.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game as a junior.
