Youngs move to Huntington is paying off

THE RIVALS150: 2016 | 2017

A member of the 2017 Rivals150, three-star small forward Trace Young elected to leave his home in Kentucky to attend Huntington (W.Va.) Prep as a junior. So far, the move seems to be paying off well for the slender, mobile and skilled 6-foot-8 wing.
He is playing this year as a bit of an understudy to Michigan State-bound five-star Miles Bridges. Young's style is much different than that of Bridges, but he's learning a lot from the senior while adding college attention. Young has offers from Kansas State, DePaul, UMass, USF, USC and Western Kentucky to go with interest from Louisville and Texas, among others.
IN HIS OWN WORDS
"I think the move to Huntington has helped me a lot. It's allowed me to get stronger and to work on my game against high-level players on a daily basis. I'm getting to play on the wing more and expand my game. …
"Miles Bridges brings a lot of toughness and energy to the floor. He pushes everybody to be at the top of their game and I'm learning a lot from him."
WHAT'S NEXT?
Young is hoping to find some time to take unofficial visits during the winter but with Huntington Prep's travel schedule it isn't easy to find dates. He wants to play through the high school season to see which schools get involved and then he'll decide whether to set a firm list or keep things open through the spring.
RIVALS' REACTION
Because of his size, length and an ability to shoot the ball, coaches can look past some inconsistent play from Young because he does have skill. Expect more high-majors to offer and it will likely be at least a few months before some programs start to stick out. Should Louisville decide to offer, it would likely be in good shape.
