Young planning to play in the Midwest

Collin Young, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound shooting guard/small forward from Snider High School in Ft. Wayne, Ind., is still in the early stages of his recruitment, but it appears that he might be leaning towards staying close to home. Young is currently receiving interest from several high major programs, but staying in the Midwest is the direction Young is leaning toward at this time.
“I have been playing football for my high school team, so no coaches’ have come by to watch me practice just yet,” Young said. “Once the football season is over and I get settled into basketball, I’m sure that some of the schools recruiting me right now will stop by for practice or a game.

“Southern Illinois, Ball State, IPFW, Bowling Green, Akron, Indiana and Purdue are just some of the schools that I really like,” he added. “I am wide-open in my recruitment and feel that it would be best to consider all of my options, but these are just some of the schools that I like right now.”
Despite the fact that Young thinks it would be best to consider all of his options when it comes to his recruitment, the 6-foot-3 shooting guard/small forward also indicated attending college in the Midwest is almost a guarantee.
“I do plan to take all five official visits when that time comes, but I want to visit schools that are located in the Midwest,” Young said. “I am interested in visiting schools like Indiana, Ball State, SIU and a few others. I do want to keep all of my options open, but I like the Midwest and want to give those schools a serious look.
“Southern Illinois is one school that has been showing a lot of interest as of late,” he added. “SIU is a school that I definitely plan to officially visit. Everything about Southern Illinois is great. The school, the location, the basketball program and the academics are just great.”
