Young Michigan guard on the recruiting radar

Lake Orion (Mich.) High School has not had a top basketball prospect in recent history, but they have one now in 6-foot-4, 195-pound sophomore shooting guard Drew Maynard. Brand new to the recruiting radar, Maynard will hit the circuit this summer with the Michigan Mustangs.
Leading his team to an 11-2 record, Maynard is averaging a team high 18 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. A couple Michigan schools are aware of his potential.

"Central Michigan began talking to us early in the year," said Lake Orion head coach Jim Manzo. "They are definitely interested. Michigan State has written him, and he went to one of their games with his AAU team. He has always liked Michigan State and came away from the game very impressed."
A good jumper who can get to the basket and finish, Maynard has recorded a dunk in all but one game this season.
"He is long and athletic," said Manzo. "He is a good ball handler and has a chance to grow to 6'6. He's not a guy that is going to kill you shooting jumpers from the wing although he does shoot the ball pretty well. What he does best is attack the basket.
"Whether or not he is going to be a Big Ten type player depends a lot on how he develops his foot speed as a defender."
