Xavier Snags Brown

Derrick Brown, the No. 95 ranked player in the class of 2005, had a few power conference schools on his list, but the 6-foot-7, 190-pound small forward from Chaminade-Julienne High School in Dayton, Ohio, has come back from his visit to Xavier committed to the Musketeers.
“I committed this morning,” said Brown. “I think Xavier offers me the best of both worlds as far as academics and basketball. I’ve always gotten along with Coach Miller. When he was an assistant, he was in charge of recruiting me. He’s a great guy, and I’ve always felt comfortable around him. I will enjoy playing for him.”

Recruited by other bigger schools, Brown instead opted for a more intimate atmosphere at Xavier.
“Xavier reminds me of my high school, not too big, not too small,” he said. “I like that type of environment. I also had a chance to spend time with the players, and I felt comfortable around them. They made me feel like they wanted me to play at Xavier.
“I was also considering offers from Michigan State, North Carolina State, Wake Forest, and Dayton. I want to comment every one of those schools. They did a great job recruiting me. They are all great programs, and at one time, I heavily considered each one of them.”
Brown is a very good outside shooter, especially off the pass. He feels the single post offense of Xavier will give him a chance for open looks on the perimeter.
“I think I fit in well in Xavier’s system,” he said. “They run a ‘four out/one in’ offense. I like how their guards and forwards are interchangeable.”
