Xavier kicks off 2019 with Samari Curtis

Xavier kicked off its 2019 class on Monday evening with the commitment of 6-foot-3 junior Samari Curtis. The 6-foot-3 prospect is a wired-to-compete combo guard that can score, create for others and is more than capable of defending multiple positions on the perimeter.

Curtis held power conference offers from the Musketeers and Cincinnati, to go along with a slew of mid-level interest and offers. Capable of playing on and off of the basketball, Curtis has the chance to flourish at the Big East program thanks to his playmaking skills, range and versatility.

Curtis discussed his choice.

“I just trust the coaching staff and also coach (Travis) Steele a lot to get me ready for the college level,” he said. “They said they would like to use me as a combo guard, which is a position that I have been playing me entire life. I am just really excited to commit to such a great school and be coached by such a great staff.”

Built in the mold of current jumbo guard standouts in Quentin Goodin and Paul Scruggs, Curtis is another pick-up that could emerge as a highly productive backcourt standout for the Musketeers.

Xavier currently boasts three 2018 commitments this fall, those coming from scoring guard Keonte Kennedy and frontcourt prospects DJ James and Jake Walter.
