Wright surprises with North Carolina pick

Before his North Carolina visit, there was plenty of speculation that Brandan Wright might not even take the visit. Wright, the No. 5 ranked player in the Rivals150, not only took the visit but committed to the Tar Heels on Sunday following the visit.
"Brandan committed to North Carolina," said Wright's high school coach George Pitts of Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy. "I can't imagine how hard it was for him to make this decision. I told him a lot of people would want to know why he made this choice, and he just said he felt it was the best fit."

Wright, a 6-foot-9, 201-pound forward, was down to Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Duke and North Carolina before choosing North Carolina this weekend.
When asked if Wright had been a secrete North Carolina lean throughout the process, Pitts said he did not think so.

Brandan Wright scouting report:
Full of NBA potential, Wright is a tremendous shot blocker and a very good rebounder. His wing span of 7-foot-1.5 allows him to play above his opponents, and rarely does he turn the ball over. His skinny frame can be out muscled, and he needs to learn to hold his ground defensively and not always set up for the block and learn to post up harder on offense. He has range out to 17-feet but needs to tighten up his mechanics and improve the consistency of his jumper.
