Works Gives All Out Effort

Joseph "Mookie" Works, a hustling 6-6, 220 pound power/combo forward from Garden City C.C. in Garden City, Kan., is a player that many Division I programs will be keeping an eye on this winter.
Works, along with 6-9 teammate Leonard Harden (committed to Miami), are two of the Broncbusters' top returnees in the frontcourt this winter.

As a freshman last season, Works did a lot of the dirty work for a team that finished 20-11. He ripped down 4.8 rebounds a game, but did not rank among the team's top four scorers.
At the recent Mullen/Mitchell JUCO Jamboree in Dallas, Tex., Works showed that he is working hard to become a more versatile scorer and better all-around player. While his jumper can best be described as inconsistent at this juncture, Works can put the ball on the deck for limited stretches, get to the hole and finish.
The bottom line is that his perimeter game is still a work in progress, and Works still does his best work hitting the offensive glass and scrapping around the cylinder for loose change. His upper body strength has improved since last year, and he is still an explosive athlete who can finish with authority.
Broncbuster Head Coach Earl Diddle told Rivalshoops.com that Tulsa, New Mexico State, South Florida, Arkansas-Little Rock and Louisiana-Monroe are among the programs that have shown the most early interest in Works.
A native of San Antonio, Tex., Works is expected to graduate in the spring. Rivalshoops.com plans to catch Garden City in action again this winter, and we will keep you abreast of any changes to his list in the weeks and months to come.
