Contrary to published reports that 2006 prospect Jon Workman had committed to Iowa, his high school coach Tim Sirk of Lakeland High School in LaGrange, Ind., said that no commitment has been made by the 6-foot-8, 210-pound combo forward. However, Iowa is at the top of his list along with a couple other Big Ten schools.

“I don’t know where that rumor came from, but it has caused me a lot of headaches today,” said Coach Sirk. “Several coaches have called wanting to know what the deal is.
“Certainly, he is very interested in Iowa. Ohio State and Purdue are also schools that he mentions a lot as liking. It is early, and making an early decision is something we will talk about in the next couple days. We want to at least pare it down, so he can concentrate on five or three schools, whatever it might be.”
Quite a few high major programs have shown serious interest in the skilled forward, who averaged 19 points and 7 rebounds per game last season.
“He has been offered by Iowa, Ohio State, Purdue, Valparaiso, and a couple others,” said Coach Sirk. “Michigan State was seriously looking at him. He has also received serious interest from Illinois and North Carolina State. Wake Forest is somewhat interested, and Missouri has sent someone in to see him during this period.”
Workman excels at shooting the ball, making 45 percent of 106 three-point attempts and shooting over 80 percent from the line during his sophomore season. Good with the ball in general, he can also put it on the floor and find the open man.
“He is a skilled four,” said Coach Sirk. “That would be his best place in my opinion. He would struggle defensively guarding a three. But he is a smart player who can pass, shoot, dribble, and score inside. He has a high release inside and on the perimeter, and he has two or three very good post moves.”
