Winchendon Outlasts Laurinburg

SMITHFIELD, RHODE ISLAND -- Corey Herring scored 25 points while Clyde Wade ran a solid floor game and added 19 points to lead the Winchendon School to a victory over Laurinburg Institute at the 2002 National Prep School Invitational held on the campus of Bryant College.
Wade came off the bench to do his damage. The athletic guard also had a three-pointer last night. Winchendon led 42-33 at the half. It was 42-30 with 25 seconds left after Wade hit his three.

Francisco Garcia, headed to Louisville, got going in the second half. He hit a short jumper with 15:06 left in the second half to give Winchendon a 54-41 lead. Garcia's slam made it 56-41 with 14:40 left.
Lauringburg rallied on a couple of occasions behind Terrance Whiters (23 points), Shelden Franklin (14 points), and Cortez Davis (12 points). But they could get no closer than seven points in the second half as Winchendon had too much firepower.
Garcia also had 18 points for the winners while Demario Eddins was very impressive with 17 points. Curtis Stinson also pitched in with 13 points for head coach Mike Byrnes' team. Manhattan bound guard Kenny Minor scored six and was impressive also in running the show while big man Martin Iti produced three blocks and four points in limited time.
