Martin Iti, a 6-11, 230 pound center from Massachusetts' Winchendon Academy, has ended the recruiting race. The Australian native is headed to Charlotte, according to the Charlotte Observer.
This is a little surprising since when we interviewed Iti at the NBPA camp, he said, "... his top schools are UCLA, Southern Cal and Connecticut... (and) is being recruited by Cincinnati, Louisvile, Memphis, North Carolina and Syracuse." But this is a good example of what can be missed, either by the reporter or the player, in a standup interview on a basketball court.
Iti told Observer reporter Gregg Doyel he hasn't thought about skipping college, but he has thought about leaving early.
He averaged 11 points and seven rebounds as a junior at Winchendon last season. Iti has yet to take the SAT. He will take the test in the fall.
Next on Iti's schedule is the adidas ABCD camp in New Jersey.
