Wilson, Team Texas Select Nip Next Level in OT

LAS VEGAS -- Forward Kyle Wilson hit one of two free throws with seven seconds to play in overtime and his Team Texas Select squad held on for a 72-69 victory over the Next Level All-Stars on Thursday afternoon at the adidas Big Time Tournament.
Wilson (pictured right), a skilled power/combination forward from Jesuit H.S. in Dallas, Tex., led Select with 17 points in the victory.

Next Level trailed 69-64 with 1:30 to play in overtime when Steve Cotton connected on a three pointer to slice the deficit to 69-67.
Following a pair of free throws from Select guard Parker Lee, Next Level's Brandon Worthy drove the lane and scored to bring the deficit back to a deuce at 71-69.
That's when Wilson's free throw gave Select a little extra insurance and forced Next Level to go for three instead of two, which was critical since Next Level features two of the game's better slashers in Worthy and Jason Obazuaye.
Pint sized point guard Joe Calderon, who had helped Next Level force the OT session with a late second half basket, missed badly on a three at the buzzer to preserve the Texas victory.
Guard Darvin Peterson of Select chipped in 12 points and forward Josh Combs added 11 for the winners.
Cotton connected on four three pointers on the way to 17 points to lead Next Level, while Obazuaye added 16 points and Worthy 15 in defeat.
