Williams Welcomes Tar Heels Back Into Recruitment

On a recording breaking night, Louis Williams decided to show North Carolina head coach Roy Williams what he was all about. The 6-foot-2 junior unleashed for 43 points in front of the ACC coach in a convincing win over a cross-town foe. After the dust settled from his scoring barrage, Williams said his school list welcomed back an old favorite.
North Carolina was at one point, one of the top schools for Williams but after a coaching change and lack of initial contact from the UNC staff, the Georgia native said he’s glad that the Tar Heels sent their head man to a South Gwinnett game.

Williams said the face time by Coach Williams has propelled UNC back into his top schools and with that, he is already making plans to see the Chapel Hill campus.
“I knew he was coming to the game which means a lot because that lets me know they are interested in me,” Williams said.
“Having (Coach Williams) at my game allows me to know that they are really interested because if the head coach is interested, than I know that entire staff is interested.”
Now that the interest is back, Williams said he like to see more of the Tar Heels both on his turf as well as theirs. But first comes the SAT – which he’ll take in January – and then the visits.
“I definitely want to take my official visits to North Carolina and Georgia in the summer and then look at my other options,” he said. Williams said. Tennessee, Memphis and Wake Forest are the other possibilities.
Williams, who is been in contact with the UNC basketball offices over the last three weeks, tied a school record for most three pointers made in a game. The shooting guard – who is averaging 33 points on the year – sunk nine long balls, including a buzzer beater in the fourth quarter, in South Gwinnett’s 72-52 win over cross-town rival North Gwinnett.
Williams says he holds all but two of the Comet’s school records. He said he is pretty confident that one of the records can be broken.
“I’m pretty sure I can get the steals record but the assist number could remain untouched. I’m a little late in that race,” Williams said.
South Gwinnett (3-0) travels to the City of Palms Classic in Fort Meyers, Florida on Dec. 19. The Comets will play Jacksonville Raines (FL) at 9 p.m. EST.
