Williams checking out several Midwest schools

Power forward Malik Williams from Fort Wayne (Ind.) Snider has made major strides in his game over the past year. After a breakout summer with Team Legit, he now ranks as the 35th overall prospect in the 2017 Rivals150.
Still rail thin at 6-foot-10, the four-star prospect is a top-notch shot blocker that also possesses some skill to his game. College coaches have taken notice of his potential and many have made their way to see him at his school since the recruiting period started in September. He's seen coaches from Iowa, Purdue, Indiana, Michigan State, Xavier, Cincinnati, Wake Forest, Illinois and Michigan. He's taken visits recently to Cincinnati, Xavier, Purdue, Indiana and Michigan State.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: Williams spoke to Rivals.com about the schools he's taken visits to already.
Indiana: "I've been going there for Hoosier Hysteria the past three years and I liked it. I like their coaches. They are all pretty cool."
Purdue: "We had a pretty good talk there. They talked about what my role would be and they took me around the campus."
Michigan State: "Coach (Tom) Izzo is a great coach. He's talked about their program, what my role would be and what they like about my game."
Cincinnati: "I liked their campus. We had a meeting and watched some film with all their coaches. They just showed me how they play."
Xavier: "We had a meeting with them too and they showed us around their campus as well."
WHAT'S NEXT? Only a junior, Williams still has another year before he can put pen to paper on a national letter of intent. As such a talented prospect, look for his recruitment to heat up with more schools getting involved as he develops. At the moment, don't expect an early decision from him. His current plan is to decide either immediately before his senior season starts or right after it ends.
RIVALS' REACTION: Looking at the schools currently involved with Williams and the schools he's visited, there is a trend developing here. It looks as if he's most serious about schools located in the Midwest and not too far from home. Could that change over the next year? We'll see.
