Wilkes Narrows Schools To 3

Omar Wilkes, a smooth 6-3, 173 pound shooting guard from Loyola H.S. in Los Angeles, Calif., has narrowed his choices to three colleges this fall.
In fact, Wilkes told Rivalshoops.com on Tuesday night that he plans to announce his college intentions on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at a press conference at Loyola H.S.

"I've narrowed it down to California, UCLA and Kansas," Wilkes said. "I really respect Stanford, I think they are a great program, but it's just not a great fit for me."
Wilkes had been scheduled to visit Stanford this upcoming weekend (Sept. 27-29), but he has since canceled that trip. His most recent trip was to UCLA this past weekend (Sept. 20-22).
"I had an excellent visit to UCLA," he said. "I enjoyed spending time with Coach Lavin and getting to know the coaching staff."
"Hanging out with the players and seeing the facilities reminded me of what a great package UCLA has to offer," he continued. "They sold the idea of staying home to me. I would say it was a very productive visit."
Previously, Wilkes visited Kansas in the spring and California from Sept. 6-8.
"All three visits were fun but in different ways," Wilkes said. "Kansas was fun because all of the players hung out together and told me stories about Coach Williams."
"Cal was very similar to that, plus I really enjoy being in the Bay Area of Oakland and San Francisco," he continued. "At UCLA, I was able to go out to different places in the area that I had never been exposed to before."
Wilkes anticipates that a press conference will be held at Loyola around 2:30 p.m. PST next Wednesday, Oct. 1.
"I have all of the information that I need to make a decision, since I've had all of the in-homes and taken all of my trips," Wilkes said. "I just have to add up all of the plusses and minuses and try to come up with the best fit for me."
