Wildcats snag Meeks

Until the final days of his recruitment, Jodie Meeks had been a solid Alabama lean with a number of other schools rotating in at number two on his school list. But when the Kentucky began recruiting the 6-foot-4, 197-pound combo guard from Norcross (Ga.) High School, the Wildcats jumped to the top of his list and secured a commitment after this weekend's official visit.
"Jodie said it was an honor and privilege to be able to play for a school like Kentucky," said Meek's father Orestes Meeks. "The opportunity to play for a national championship is probably greater there. He really likes the prestige of the Kentucky program.

"Jodie is really looking forward to going to Kentucky, and no one is going to work harder to be ready than he is."
Meeks, who averaged 17.5 points, 5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game as a junior, will join four-star prospect Derrick Jasper in the Wildcat backcourt. Other 2006 commitment Michael Porter is a likely candidate for prep school as Kentucky now focuses its attention on landing big men Brandan Wright and Deon Thompson.

Jodie Meeks scouting report:
A well built and athletic combo guard, Meeks has a knack for scoring with a smooth midrange pull up jumper and the ability to get to the rim with either hand. Also possessing a high basketball IQ, he does more than score. He defends well, gets in passing lanes and rebounds. Does need to improve the mechanics and consistency of his long range jumper.
