Wichita State gets it done with juco big man

Typically, kids who head off to junior colleges end up committing a little later. That's not the case with Earl Watson.
A freshman power forward at Marianna (Fla.) Chipola College, Watson made an early commitment Wichita State.

A 6-foot-7, 240 pound native of Florida, Watson spent a year in prep school before finding his way to Chipola.
Schools who have seen him this fall have been raving about him and the Shockers used their strong ties to Chipola -- all three Wichita State assistants have spent time coaching at Chipola -- to get Watson done before too many others found out about him.
"Earl is a very strong power forward with a very wide upper body that he uses to clear out space on both ends in the paint," said Chipola head coach Jake Headrick. "He is definitely a high major athlete and finishes everything in the paint above the rim.
"He's really good and definitely would have gotten recruited anywhere."
Because he's only a freshman, Watson won't get to Wichita until 2013. Once there, he'll have two years of eligibility.
