Wheaton Heads To Conference USA

Tulane is on the board. With their first commitment from the Class of 2004, the Green Wave have landed Matt Wheaton, an all-around 6-foot-6, 190-pound forward from Mayde Creek High School in Katy, Tex. After making an official visit to the New Orleans campus this past weekend, Wheaton gave Tulane his pledge.
"I've committed to Tulane," said Wheaton. "I had a great trip there. I really like the coaches and the players, and they've got a great academic program. Everything just went really well."

Wheaton chose Tulane over Kansas State, Texas A&M, South Alabama, and Stephen F. Austin. He has previously visited South Alabama and had two more visits scheduled, but has cancelled them after getting back. During his visit to Tulane, Wheaton noted that he fell in love with the campus and the atmosphere in New Orleans. The Green Wave have immediate plans for Wheaton, a versatile player who can score inside and out.
"I'll be playing the two and the three," said Wheaton. "One of their senior wings is leaving so I'll have plenty of playing time."
An excellent student, Wheaton is looking at majoring in Computer Engineering at Tulane. And now that the decision is behind him, he's ready for a fun final high school season. "I'm ready to enjoy my senior year," he said.
Wheaton's teammate and good friend at Mayde Creek, Rodney Foster, verbally committed to Rice earlier this summer.
