Whats Next For Demarshay

While an NCAA Clearinghouse issue has clouded his recruitment, 6-9 forward Demarshay Johnson of Oakland, Calif., never signed a national letter of intent this spring with Oregon State.
Earlier this spring, Rivalshoops had spoken with both Johnson and the coaching staff at Christian Faith Center in Creedmor, N.C., and both confirmed that Demarshay appeared to be a lock for Oregon State.

But according to a source familiar with Johnson's situation, the Oakland Tech product never signed a national letter of intent with Oregon State. In fact, the source said that Arkansas, DePaul, Nevada-Reno and Oregon State are continuing to recruit Johnson this summer in the hope that he is able to sail through the NCAA Clearinghouse.
Johnson spent the 2001-2002 school year at Christian Faith to bolster his academic credentials in line with current NCAA minimum eligibility standards (2.5 core, 820 SAT).
The source informed us that Johnson scored an 870 on the SAT, which would require him to post roughly a 2.4 core GPA in 13 mandatory high school courses. That would seem to indicate that Johnson's core GPA could be under scrutiny by the Clearinghouse.
Johnson took an official visit to St. Joe's (PA) in the spring, and had interest from several other Division I programs this past winter and spring.
A finesse power forward who needs to continue getting stronger, Johnson could make a summer decision if the NCAA Clearinghouse issue gets resolved. We will keep you posted in the weeks to come, so stay tuned.
