Western Carolina adds big man

A quick trip to the North Carolina mountains and a look around the Western Carolina campus was all Richie Gordon needed to see in order to make his college decision.
The 6-foot-7, 238-pound forward from Lakeside-Dekalb High School in Atlanta verbally committed to the Southern Conference school on Monday.

"I liked the players the most," Gordon said on his way home from WCU. "I like their players. They are all young and everyone there are nice people. It's a nice school, not too big, not too small. Everything is real close together. I liked it a lot."
More of a defensive presence right now, Gordon averaged a double-double this year (12.7 points, 10.4 rebounds and eight blocks a game) and hopes to continue to improve under Larry Hunter.
"Hopefully I can get bigger and better," Gordon, who improved greatly since this summer with the Inner Strength AAU program, said. "There is a chance for me to come and start but I know I'm going to need to fight for that like everyone else. They needed a big guy and I hope I'm him."
Gordon also considered Wofford, UNC Greensboro, Alabama A&M and Prairie View.
