West Virginia added further to its 2018 recruiting class as it dipped into the state of Florida and landed the commitment of versatile guard Trey Doomes. A 6-foot-3 lefty guard that bettered his national standing this summer with the Nike Team Florida program, Doomes brings two-way abilities and the talent to fit in immediately at WVU.

Bringing solid length, quickness and the ability to play on and off the basketball, Doomes committed thanks to the attention from Bob Huggins and his staff. A native of Georgia who is finishing out his final year of play at the University School in Florida, Doomes is the type of hard-playing and active guard that has come to excel in Morgantown.

“They are a top 10 preseason team, a top five team in defense, and I want to make it to the league, so I feel like Coach (Bob) Huggins can definitely get me there,” Doomes said. “They are losing Jevon Carter and they want me to come in and play right away.”

An ambidextrous guard that can score from 12-feet and in, Doomes does have to become a better perimeter shooter, though he does not lack for efficiency within the arc. Averaging over 12 points, four rebounds and three assists per game, while knocking in over 55 percent of his field goal tries, Doomes should be able to contribute early on in Morgantown.

The third commitment in the 2018 class, Doomes will join flashy playmaking Rivals150 guard Jordan McCabe, along with Derek Culver, a one-time 2017 pledge that is taking a prep year this winter.

The Mountaineers will remain in pursuit of one more big man recruit this fall as they recently hosted Andrew Gordon, a top junior college big man, three weeks back for an official visit.
