West runs shoots past East

San Diego, Calif.-True to their practice form, the West squad used pinpoint passing and sharp three-point shooting in an aggressive, fast paced style to defeat the East squad 112-94 in the 2006 McDonald's All American Game. Leading with way from the wing position for the West were Co-MVP's Kevin Durant and Chase Budinger.
The West got off to a shaky start with the East racing out to a healthy double digit lead early in the first half. Gerald Henderson led the East with 10 points in the first half, and Greg Oden swatted away 4 shots in the opening period.

Gradually the East worked their back into the game only down 55-48 at the break. Durant's work on the outside and Spencer Hawes' work in the post accounted for 7 points each to lead the East.
In the second half, a combination of a swarming defense, crisp passing, and accurate three-point shooting from the West and poor shot selection and poor transition defense from the East turned the game in favor of the West.
Daequan Cook nailed 4 of 7 three-pointers in the second half to jumpstart the West. Jon Scheyer then got into the act sinking 2 of 2 three-pointers and dishing out 4 assists.
Co-MVP's Durant and Budinger also took turns hooking each other up for three-pointers and finishes at the basket.
Sherron Collins shook off a shaky start to play a strong game in the second half as well.
Statistically, the East has more turnovers than assists with 20 turnovers and 19 assists. On the other hand, the West had 24 assists to 15 turnovers.
