West Coast sophomore is a big time competitor

You don't have to be the biggest player on the floor to be the toughest. You don't have to be the oldest either. Four-star sophomore Devearl Ramsey is proof of that.

A 5-foot-10 point guard at Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon, Ramsey is a mega competitor who has experience playing for USA Basketball under his belt after running with the 16 and under national team last summer.
"Overall playing with those guys has been a great experience to know where I'm at," Ramsey told Rivals.com of his USA Basketball experience. "They are great players but I have great players on my high school team too. But, you can't beat the experience."
One of the fastest players in the class of 2016, Ramsey has played some off the ball in the past because of his ability to score the ball. Now, as a sophomore, he is running his team exclusively.
As a floor general, Ramsey is incredibly physical given his size. He is an in your face defender, always attacks the paint and the transition to full time point is going well.
"It's going pretty good," said Ramsey. "At first it was pretty rough because I'm naturally a scorer so it's easy for me to score. With me penetrating and doing what I do it is easier to find my guys.
"When I'm penetrating I'm not always looking to score now. I can kick it to my guys and let them score first and then get mine."
So far, Ramsey's first two offers have come from USC and Washington and others showing early attention already include Arizona, Kansas and UCLA.
"Growing and playing at the YMCA until I was 13 and then playing AAU after that it's a big trip," said Ramsey. "All those big schools, I never thought it would be me but now it's happening."
Though he already has high major offers and has cemented his rep as one of the top sophomore point guards on the West Coast, Ramsey says that he is in no hurry to make a decision.
"I'm probably going to take a lot of time," said Ramsey. "I want to go somewhere that I have a chance to win a national championship. I like a team that is going to be run and gun the way I play.
"Somewhere that sets a lot of ball screens and stuff and I think I want to stay close to home right now. I like good weather and Los Angeles is great weather so I'm kind of spoiled there."
