Wesley Washington Headed To UW

Wesley Washington, a 6-foot-3, 170-pound shooting guard from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, CA., had originally given a commitment to play basketball for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. As a member of the class of 2003, Washington should be attending classes, but that is not the case. It appears there was some type of problem with his transcript, so he was in the process of looking for a new school. Well, the wait is finally over.
“I can’t really comment on my situation with Minnesota, but I’m no longer attending that University,” Washington said. “I’ve been advised by my lawyers to keep quiet about the matter.”

Now that Washington will no longer be playing for the Golden Gophers, what are his plans for the future?
“It looks like I’ll be attending the University of Washington,” he said. “I’ve talked with the coaching staff and they have a scholarship waiting for me. Nothing is set in stone, but I am sure that is going to happen.
“I believe school starts on September 25, so I plan on being at Washington a week or so before that,” he added. “I’ve never officially visited the campus, but I feel that it’s the school for me.”
