Watkins Visiting UNC

Darryl Watkins, Paterson (NJ) Catholic's 6-10 senior center, arrived on the North Carolina campus at noon today, according to a source close to Watkins.
Watkins is one of the few players left in the 2003 class that can provide immediate help. UNC is looking to improve the center slot next season. If this area is solidified, it's likely the Tar Heels would make a serious run at making the NCAA tournament.

There is heavy Big East interest also in Watkins. Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Villanova, Seton Hall, and Rutgers have been working Watkins hard. Kentucky has also been mentioned with Watkins too.
Indiana, which showed some initial interest early last month, does not appear to be in the picture for Watkins at this juncture and is currently trying hard for Alexander Johnson.
Watkins will leave the campus of UNC after he watches the Tar Heels take on Wyoming in Chapel Hill for an NIT matchup. Watkins is not expected to make a decision until he takes some more visits, according to a source very close to Watkins.
