Watkins Ready For Decision

Is Darryl Watkins finally ready to make a decision? Watkins, 7-0, from Paterson Catholic High School in New Jersey, has been flirting with many high majors over the past three months. Among the schools that have expressed interest at one time during his recruiting process are North Carolina, Kentucky, Villanova, Seton Hall, and Rutgers.
But during last week's Charlie Weber tournament in Washington, D.C., many who know Watkins felt he would eventually land at Rutgers, despite the Scarlet Knights signing Byron Joynes, an inside player from Oak Hill Academy. A source close to the Rutgers program told us last weekend in Washington, D.C. at the Weber event that the Knights were making every effort to sign Watkins despite the recruit pickup.

Watkins was quoted in an NorthJersey.com article as saying he could give a commitment to the Rutgers program after his visit today. This would match up with what RivalsHoops.com was told last weekend. Watkins, who turned down chances to play in a couple of highly regarded all star games because his friend Marquis Webb wasn't invited, could end up playing with his buddy at Rutgers.
"I don't think he doesn't want to go anywhere but where Marquis is," a source close to Watkins told us. "They are very close and enjoy playing basketball together."
Syracuse and Seton Hall are also mentioned in the article as being of interest too. Watkins could take a trip to Seton Hall on Sunday, according to a family source. But the ball is in Rutgers court this weekend.
