Washington Announces Signing of Brandon Roy

The University of Washington recently announced the signing of one of the nation's top basketball prospects in the Class of 2002, 6-5 swingman Brandon Roy of Garfield H.S. in Seattle, Wash.

Roy, pictured right with Team Yes Red at the adidas Big Time Tournament in Las Vegas this past July, enjoyed a terrific summer despite playing on a injured knee.
A terrific athlete who can score in a variety of ways, Roy picked the Huskies over Gonzaga, Arizona and Oregon.
He is the third Garfield player in the past two years who has signed a national letter of intent with Bob Bender's program.
The other two were 6-9 forward Anthony Washington and 6-1 point guard Will Conroy.
Roy could be an impact recruit for the Huskies if he is able to qualify academically. He needs to boost both his core grades and standardized test scores in order to meet NCAA initial eligibility standards for freshmen.
